Portuguese Style of Knitting – History, Traditions, and Techniques is the first book in the USA that explains step by step how to knit Portuguese Style, a very ergonomic and easy way of hand knitting. It also includes a brief history of Portugal, its crafts and some facts on spinning. My travel pictures will open a window in the colorful world of Portugal.
Detailed images and explanations offer knitters an opportunity to practice this style that, once mastered is easy on the hands and relaxing. You will learn all the basics: cast on, knit and purl stitches, and bind off. Once you practice and obtain a smooth tension you can approach how to knit lace, cables, double knitting and two color knitting, much easier in this style because the ball of yarn does not tangle.
As a bonus, I talk about advantages and disadvantages of using knitting needles with hooks, typically used in Portugal and countries of Mediterranean culture to this day.
The book also offers ten garment patterns that I designed specifically to practice different aspects of Portuguese-style knitting. They are inspired by traditional garments as well as the richly patterned environment of Portugal.
